Carpathian Mountain Rogaining are the international team races where teams from two to five members have to visit as many checkpoints as possible in the 24 hours. The races will be held in the beauty place of Carpathians – Gorgany mountains.
The races are very close to orienteering but mountain specific and race duration makes it differ.
 
Orinteerers, marathoners, participants of adventure races of Ukraine and other countries are being invited without any restrictions for participation in competitions.
 

Terrain

Gorgany – is the system of mountain ranges in the outer zone of Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains which are situated in Ivano-Frankivska and Zakarpatska oblast (Ukrainian regions).It stretches for a 75 kilometers from north-west - the valley of river Myzunka to south-east to the valley of river Prout. The width of Gorgany region from west to east is 40 kilometers. Carpathian nature national park is situated on south-east part of Gorgany. National park “Gorgany” is situated near the region of Dovbushanka and Polensky mounts. Landscape conservation area “Gropha” is situated near the ranges of Popadya and Syvoulya mountains. The main summits of Gorgany are Blyznitsa, Syvoulya, Dovboushanka. The terrain is presented by beech and fir tree forests that reach the altitudes of 850-900 m. Fir tree forests reach 1200-1300 m. The brushwood (mountain pine tree) begin from 1350 m. There are stone placers from 1670 m altitude. There are no alpine grasslands in Gorgany. There are a lot of grasslands and glades along the valleys of rivers which were created after  the felling of trees. These glades are used as pastures. 

Map

  Map of competitions will be prepared in OCAD system from the available topographic maps. Checkpoints, food stations, water stations are marked by the corresponding notation on the map .

 Contour interval will be 10 metres.The map will be oriented to magnetic north and will have magnetic north lines overprinted. Map scale will be 1:30000.

There are some special coloring in the map. Scoring

Scoring will be electronic. There will be a wrist tag for each team member. 

The total number of checkpoints and the maximum number of points that can be scored will be announced in the final event information. The value of each checkpoint will be the “tens” value of its number, so for example 37 is worth 30 points and 53 is worth 50 points. Checkpoints will be identified by a standard orienteering flag.
 

Age Groups

The number of team members is 2-5 participants. There are the following groups in competition:

 
О – open group (21 – 40 years);
Vveterans (from 40 years)
 
Every group has three subgroups (M-man, W-women,X-mixed).   

Rules 

The event will take place under the rules of the IRF. The current rules (June, 2010) are available on the IRF website. Usage of GPS is prohibited.

Competition Fee

Competition fee is 20 EUR per person (for both formats). It includes competitions service, food during rogaining, map and other accessories.

Awarding

 The prizes from sponsors are provided in all groups. The winners and prizers  will be awarded by medals. Cash prizes are played only in groups with a sufficient number of participants. Otherwise, the organizers reserve the right to cancel the money prize.

Catering During Competitions

The food station will be organized in one of the checkpoints.

 Weather and reccomended equipment

The nights in Carpathian in September could be cold (even to 0 degrees). The weather could be very windy on the ranges. The rains are rare in this period in Carpathian but are possible. It is recommended to have wind-proof and water-proof jacket, gloves, cap and trekking sticks. The mandatory equipment - first-aid set, mobile phone and compass.
